Local Assistance Program Guidelines
What you will learn
You will learn key facts and information that are currently found in both of these manuals. The training questions are grouped by manual and by chapter, in the order that they appear in the manuals. In time, information from other related sources may be added to this program.
If you would like to see this type of program done for other reference volumes, let us know. We are interested in hearing your recommendations.
Who should take the training
The targeted audience for this training are entry-level engineers, technicians and planners who are involved in the implementation of Federally and State funded transportation projects. All Caltrans Local Assistance staff as well as staff from cities, counties and transportation agencies around the state are encouraged to utilize this training.
Instructions
For each question in the training, there is a reference to a page and line number in the manual where the background information resides. This is shown so that you may follow along with your copy of the manual if you wish. You can also access the on line PDF versions of the manuals in a separate window. They are available at www.dot.ca.gov/hq/LocalPrograms/public.htm.
Two options are available to you. One is to work through one question at a time (training mode). The other is to work through a batch of questions (test mode). Each batch of questions contains fifty or so questions and covers one or more chapters from one of the manuals.
The training mode permits you to read each question, answer the question, and view the correct answer along with a reference to the manual where the background information resides.
The test mode presents each batch of questions you select as a single document. After responding to all the questions in that batch, you will be given an overall score for that question batch as a percent answered correctly, as well as a re-display of the questions you missed, together with the correct answer and a reference to the manual where the background information resides.
After you have tried either or both modes, you can also provide us with feedback by answering a brief Usability Survey. Again, we are interested in knowing how effective this tool is for you and where it can be improved upon.
