Traffic control for safe work zones

Tech Transfer provides Cal-OSHA compliant work zone safety training for your work zone crew at your request and at your location.

This newly-revised, award-winning, two-day course trains your road crews and their supervisors to safely plan, install, operate, and take down work zones which protect the worker and the public. Attendees work on traffic control plans for a variety of real-world locations and conditions. Students also learn basic principles for safe set-up of flagging stations and effective flagging. This recently updated course incorporates the latest state and federal guidelines.

Partially funded by the California Office of Traffic Safety, this course is available to cities, counties, state, regional and federal agencies, utility companies and private contractors, and can be customized to meet the different needs of crews working on local streets, low volume roads, or high-speed facilities. Your agency or company can host a class exclusively for your own work crews, or coordinate with neighbors to take full advantage of the delivery cost. Train up to 40 attendees per class for $3000.

For more information or to schedule a delivery of Safety Through Maintenance and Construction Zones (TS-01), e-mail czoneinfo@berkeley.edu or call 510.231.5681.

FREE Inspector's Job Guide and Highway Maintenance Tables

Need a reminder on what to look for when inspecting curbs, gutters, walks, driveways, plant mix bituminous paving, concrete paving, base courses, culvert pipe or storm sewer installations, grading, seeding or finishing, structures or geotextiles? Need to estimate how many gallons of asphalt will be required per mile of road, how much roadway a 1000-gallon tank will cover, or how many pounds of sand, gravel or crushed stone you have in a stockpile? Answers to these questions and many others (in both English and Metric) are at your fingertips with Tech Transfer's Inspector's Job Guide and Highway Maintenance Tables in hand.

These information-packed, pocket-sized guides are FREE on first-come, first-served basis, to employees of California's local, regional and state public transportation agencies, while supplies last.

Requests must be made in writing and include your name, job title, agency name, and mailing address. Fax requests to Laura Morris at 510.231.9459 or e-mail alida@berkeley.edu.
