April 19-20, 2006 Tech Transfer's two day Managing Land Use and Transportation Interactions course is designed specifically for transportation planners (as well as community planners who want to understand the role of transportation planning) who want to understand what they can do to improve coordination and integration of transportation planning with community planning to better manage the complex, and often frustrating, impact of transportation on land use and land use ontransportation. Taught by a team of respected and knowledgeable planners, this class uses a combination of lectures, exercises and case studies from California to help participants first to understand how the relationship works and then to use available tools and models to create transportation plans and studies that are coordinated with and consistent with community planning products. The course covers topics from growth management ("smart growth"), how to use general and specific plans for transportation planning, how community planners use traffic impact studies, and generally how both can use performance measures to manage impacts and trade-offs rising from the need to balance mobility, economic development, housing, and environmental goals. This course is appropriate for planners from both urban and rural regions of California. Planning staff at all levels in local, regional, and state transportation agencies as well as consultants will benefit. Transportation engineers, project and agency managers, transit planners, as well as community planners, decision makers, and land developers will gain practical insight from this class.
