From Tech Transfer Newsletter, Summer 2007 » printer-friendly ClarificationIn "Bicycle Detection and Signalization" in the Spring 2007 issue of Tech Transfer, we erroneously stated that Davis, CA was the first city in the country to install bicycle signal heads. A bicycle signal head was installed in New York City in the mid-1980s at the intersection of West 33rd Street and Sixth Avenue. It is still there today. Davis was the first, however, to obtain official state approval for use of the device. Approval for bicycle signal heads is now mandated in the California Vehicle Code, and other California cities including Cupertino and San Luis Obispo have installed signal heads.
