Join us at the 2008 Rail Corridor Safety Conference (Western Region), which will focus on the latest developments in rail corridor safety issues, highway-rail grade-crossing safety improvements, and planning and construction around rails by local agencies. This three-day conference will bring together all of the parties working together to improve mobility and safety in rail transportation corridors: state and federal regulators; cities, counties, and transit agencies; and heavy rail, light rail and short line operators.
This year's conference will include a workshop tailored for city and county representatives. This session will include local agency-oriented discussions about how to determine jurisdiction for maintenance responsibility; how to solve maintenance and construction issues; how to set up work zones, flagging and temporary traffic control around the rails; the requirements of the MUTCD; updates to the FHWA handbook; the basics of crossings; and signal preemption.
This conference is co-organized by the Federal Railroad Administration and the University of California Berkeley's Institute of Transportation Studies.
