Flagging Traffic at Construction Zones: The Road Show

Road Show training from Tech Transfer and the CA-LTAP Center offers your agency a low-cost, on-site way to meet CA/OSHA's requirement that personnel who conduct or are involved in flagging operations at maintenance and construction zones receive adequate training. The Road Show is available on a first-come, first-served basis to any agency performing work on California's public highways. Per person cost for a class of 30 is just $20.

What You Get

The Flagging Road Show provides 3-4 hours of classroom-based training and hands-on practice for flaggers, road crews, crew leaders, and supervisors -- anyone working on the roadway in a maintenance or construction zone. This training meets the CAL-OSHA requirement.

In this workshop your staff will learn about and practice setting up and operating flagging stations that are safe and effective. They will learn both the importance of and how to communicate with roadway users and their own work zone crews. The training combines lectures, classroom and field demonstrations, video presentations, and hands-on skill practice.

Topics Include

  • Flagger equipment and flagger clothing
  • Flagging guidelines from CalTrans and CAL-OSHA requirements
  • How to use hand signals
  • How to conduct flagging under different roadway and traffic conditions, using a single flagger, two flaggers, or a pilot car.

Instructors

Instructors are selected from the existing 10-person team of instructors who teach Safety Through Maintenance and Construction Zones
