This video presents concepts, benefits and costs of pavement management for agencies considering PMS implementation. It outlines the basic components of pavement management systems: highway inventory, pavement condition survey, analysis of repair needs, prioritization of needs, strategy selection and cost analysis methods. Emphasis is placed on relating the PMS to local policies, fiscal constraints, and expectations of level of service. Also discussed are the advantages and disadvantages of purchasing an existing system, developing an in-house system, and hiring a consultant. Additional sources of information are suggested. |
