PATH Associate Director

The Associate Director works alongside a Faculty Director to lead a long-standing and highly respected  transportation research program focused on the research, development, and deployment of transportation innovation to improve transportation mobility, safety, equity, and the environment.  The program includes the California Program for Advanced Transportation Technology focusing on research and development of intelligent transportation systems and the affiliated Berkeley Deep Drive program focused on the application of artificial intelligence and deep learning to vehicle automation. 
The Associate Director is responsible for establishing and monitoring strategic direction of the program influenced in part by local, state and national transportation priorities, industry needs, emerging science and technology, and the expertise and interests of program staff and affiliate faculty. The incumbent chairs the PATH Leadership Team consisting of approximately 10 members. Work output of this group impacts all employees with respect to overall programmatic direction, funding, and long-term planning for sustainability. Each of the members including the candidate are responsible to generate and/or identify funding opportunities and pursue as appropriate through the development of proposals and assignment of staff to support the newly created work effort. The Associate Director is also responsible for frequent and active outreach to program and project sponsors, as well as active participation in state, national and international committees and forums that afford opportunities to explore, discuss, and influence consideration of program activities.

Seismic Advisory Board Members

TechTransfer administers the Seismic Advisory Board jointly serving the California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) and the California High Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA). The board consists of up to eight members with representation balanced among university faculty, pre-eminent scientists, engineers, researchers, and policy experts reflecting the full breadth of Caltrans and CHSRA’s responsibilities for the seismic safety of transportation structures. At this time, we are particularly interested in identifying candidates with expertise in Engineering Seismology and High Speed Rail System Design.

TechTransfer Course Instructors

TechTransfer is the California transportation community's source for training, continuing education, and professional development. We provide training in classrooms and online, including open enrollment and contracted training, host workshops and conferences, and can customize training to meet client needs.  Our programs span the transportation-related areas of planning and policy, traffic engineering, project development, infrastructure design and maintenance, safety, environmental issues, complete streets, active and multimodal transportation, rail, and aviation. We serve more than 25,000 public and private transportation agency personnel working for our state's 476 cities, 58 counties, over 50 regional transportation planning agencies (MPOs, RTPAs, CTCs and CMAs). We hold over 80 events every year, attended by over 3,000 people. TechTransfer's instructional faclty includes more than 60 leading transportation engineers, planners, and academicians working in California and elsewhere. You can view the entire list of instructors with their bios here
