Dr. Clinton Purtell, a professor of logistics and operations management, serves as Associate Director of the Jim McNatt Institute for Logistics Research at the University of North Texas and is a member of UNT’s Center for Integrated Intelligent Mobility Systems (CIIMS). His career and industry experience span more than two decades in executive leadership roles in a number of Fortune 500 and Euro 50 firms leading global supply chains, strategic sourcing, and corporate development in industries such as airline transportation, consumer goods, medical devices, restaurants and manufacturing. Dr. Purtell spent more than a decade in commercial aerospace leading and managing fleet transactions, strategic sourcing, MRO, and corporate development at American Airlines and Southwest Airlines. He also served as the strategic procurement liaison to the One World Alliance while at American Airlines. At Southwest Airlines, Dr. Purtell was a member of a research team investigating Advanced Air Mobility and the impact it may have on traditional commercial aerospace..

Dr. Purtell’s research interests lie in supply chain innovation and entrepreneurship. As an aviation enthusiast he also consults and conducts research in advanced air mobility, air taxis, unmanned air systems, and traditional airline aerospace. He currently supports a number of research initiatives with NASA and Choctaw Nation UAS Beyond, NASA MUREP, and is actively pursuing research initiatives at TXDOT and the Kauffman Foundation. He is a journal reviewer and member of the Academy of Management.

He received his PhD in Entrepreneurship from Oklahoma State University, an MBA from Belmont University, and a Bachelor of Finance from Oklahoma City University. He also received the honorable designation of Executive Scholar from Northwestern University, Kellogg School of Business in Management Science. Dr. Purtell was a Graduate Fellow of the American Indian Graduate Center and a Graduate Scholar of the National Center for National Center for American Indian Economic Development. He is an enrolled member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, and is a member of The PhD Project. He has held positions on numerous boards, including Oklahoma City University, EDUCAUSE (a Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation organization), and Honor, Courage, Commitment, and SMEAC.
