Geoffrey Gosling is an independent consultant providing aviation system planning, analysis and research expertise on a broad range of air transportation topics. He has a Ph.D. in transportation engineering from the University of California (UC), Berkeley. From 1979 to 1987 he was an Assistant Professor in the Civil Engineering Department at UC Berkeley, responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses on a range transportation subjects. From 1987 to 2002 he was a member of the research staff of the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Berkeley, responsible for the management and conduct of research into air traffic control, airport planning, aviation technology, and airport operations. From 1996 to 2002 he managed a wide range of projects for the National Center of Excellence for Aviation Operations Research. In addition to his independent consulting practice, from 2003 to 2012 he served as a Research Associate with the Mineta Transportation Institute at San José State University. He is a Member of both the British Institution of Civil Engineers and the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). He currently serves on several air transportation committees of the ASCE and the Transportation Research Board (TRB) of the National Academies and was appointed an Emeritus Member of the TRB in 2007.
