Maranda Thompson has over 20 years of experience in the practice of aviation planning and supervises Mead & Hunt’s northern California planning practice. With a background in Urban Planning, Maranda has developed specialized expertise in airport land use compatibility planning in California and has an excellent understanding of the federal, state, regional, and local planning framework. Maranda assists local government agencies in the successful adoption of compatibility policies and regulations aimed at limiting the public’s exposure to excessive noise and safety hazards and protecting airports from encroachment of incompatible land uses. Her land use compatibility experience includes policy development, stakeholder outreach, airport and heliport siting, land use compatibility evaluations, as well as developing airport overlay zoning districts.
Maranda also co-leads Mead & Hunt’s Airport Electrification and Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) initiative to assist airports and their host communities prepare and plan for new electric aircraft entrants (e.g., eCTOL/eVTOL — electric conventional/vertical takeoff and landing aircraft). Under ACRP Project 11-02/43, Successful Community Inclusion in Advanced Air Mobility (AAM), and in partnership with the Community Air Mobility Initiative (CAMI), Maranda and her research team are developing a primer for the coordination and integration of AAM among airports, communities, and other agency stakeholders.
