The California Department of Consumer Affairs has updated the official list of reference materials for the California Traffic Engineering professional engineering (PE) examination to now include the following materials:

  • The 2016 Highway Capacity Manual, updated edition from 5th (2010) to 6th (2016)

  • The Caltrans Highway Design Manual Edition 6, to include revisions adopted 11-20-2017

  • Caltrans Standard Plans, updated edition from 2010 to 2015

As June 30th approaches, many of California’s public agencies are approaching the end of their fiscal year. Many of these agencies will be losing any unspent training funds, and their future budgets can be diminished by these unspent funds. To help agencies get the most out of their remaining budgets, Tech Transfer has released our Fall training schedule early.

The May 2018 issue of the ITE Journal includes a great article, by Tech Transfer’s very own Nazir Lalani and his co-author Kristopher Gunterson, entitled Countermeasures Prove Effective in Reducing Bicycle Collisions. Within the article they explore the Vision Zero action plan created by the City of La Quinta, how it accomplished this plan, and the effectiveness of the plan as it relates to bicycle collisions. For anyone looking to find ways to help reduce bicycle collision this article is a great place to start.

We've just opened up our Traffic Signal Operations: Isolated Intersection (TE-04) and Traffic Signal Operations: Coordination for Corridors (TE-10) courses for registration. TE-04 is a must take course for anyone new to traffic signal timing or people who need a refresher on the fundamentals of traffic signal operations. While TE-10 is a more advanced course for those who have experience or knowledge of signal coordination but want to further develop their skills. Here is a great article, from TR News, by Laura Melendy (Director of Tech Transfer) and Ann Brody (former Communications Director, ITS Berkeley) on low tech modes of technology transfer.

Abstract: Person-to-person tools—on-site demonstrations, peer exchanges, and more—are low tech but effective modes of technology transfer. These on-the-ground collaborations enable in-depth exploration and low-risk assessment of new technologies and are augmented easily by high-tech knowledge sharing methods.
